Sasken Technologies Ltd., (BSE: 532663, NSE: SASKEN) (formerly Sasken Communication Technologies Ltd.), in association with the Indian Association for Research in Computing Science (IARCS), today announced the four winners of the International Olympiad in Informatics (IOI) Training Camp (IOITC) held at Chennai Mathematical Institute (CMI) from April 30 to May 9, 2018.

The winners are:

  • Ramchandra Kishor Apte, Maniram Homeschool, Bengaluru
  • Choudhury Istasis Mishra, Delhi Public School Ruby Park, Kolkata
  • Adhyyan R Sekhsaria, Dhirubhai Ambani International School, Mumbai
  • Mohammad Zaid, Mithila Public School, Forbesganj, Araria, Bihar

They will represent India in the prestigious IOI-2018 to be held in Tsukuba, Japan from September 1 to 9, 2018. The team will be led by Madhavan Mukund, Professor and Dean of Studies, CMI and National Coordinator, Indian Computing Olympiad along with K Narayan Kumar, Professor, CMI and Academic Coordinator, IOITC. For 16 years now, Sasken has been playing a significant role in sponsoring the IOITC including the travel and stay of the Indian team at the IOI.

Speaking about Sasken’s role in the event, Rajiv C Mody, Chairman, Managing Director & CEO, Sasken Technologies Limited said, “It is a matter of pride for us that over a few thousand students have benefitted from the rigorous training they receive in computing-related domains. What further gladdens me is that several of these students have gone on to join and graduate from Ivy-League institutions. Many of them are now playing key roles in global mega-corporations. This strongly resonates with our belief at Sasken that knowledge has been and will always be the key differentiator. We expect that some of these outstanding individuals will enrich the brand equity of Sasken by engaging with us.”

Professor Madhavan said, “One of the significant challenges of IOI is to combine knowledge of algorithms with effective programming skills. It takes a lot of practice to become effective at coding quickly and accurately. For this reason, IOITC places a lot of emphasis on lab time. There are also many rigorous practice tests to train students to work under the actual pressure of competition. This expertise in algorithms and programming is an exceptional mix. Our alumni are in high demand and have gone on to do pioneering work at leading tech companies and academic institutions across the globe.”

About IOI, ICO, INOI, and IOITC:
Started in 1989, the International Olympiad in Informatics (IOI) is a global competition of algorithmic and programming skills for high school students with over 80 countries participating every year. India has been competing since 2002 and has won Gold (1), Silver (13), and Bronze (32) medals thus far.

The Indian Computing Olympiad (ICO) was set up in 2002 to select and train students for IOI. The selection process consists of two exams (Zonal Olympiad and National Olympiad) held across the country, followed by a training camp. This year the Indian National Olympiad in Informatics, 2018 (INOI) saw the participation of 410 students from all across the country of which 31 students qualified for International Olympiad in Informatics Training Camp (IOITC). The training camp combines in-depth teaching with intensive lab sessions where algorithms and data structures required for IOI are taught in a problem-centric way.
