~Empowers communities in Khandke-supa, Agaswadi and Palsawade sites through this initiative~
Tata Power Community Development Trust (TPCDT) has always undertaken initiatives to conserve natural resources, especially water in and around its operational areas by sensitizing communities about the ways to conserve it. In line with the philosophy, TPCDT mobilized the Watershed initiative in Khandke-supa, Agaswadi and Palsawade sites to improve the watershed work in these regions. Through this initiative, TPCDT ensured strengthening the watershed management activities and make villages water independent.
Few years ago, the Khandke-supa site faced severe drought conditions which prompted the need for Watershed Management programs in that region. During that time, TPCDT initiated a positive environment on water conservation as a part of its CSR activity with the support of the local community and other stakeholders in the business cluster of Khandke-supa site. Under this initiative, Tata Power along with its implementing agency, Bosco Gramin Vikas Kendra, Ahmednagar, constructed Check Dams, Nala Bunds, Desilted existing structures (Shirpur Pattern) and repaired drinking water supply wells and Piped water supply scheme in Ahmednagar & Satara Districts.
After implementing this initiative, the water conservation efforts significantly helped farmers in both Kharif & Rabi seasons to reap in extra crop, improve the overall agricultural performance and positively impact economy of those regions. The areas under fodder crops and vegetable crops in summer season also increased largely due to availability of perennial ground water. There was a remarkable growth in dairy activity too resulting in an increase of milk production.

We will strive further and work in unison with the locals to ensure that the initiative continues to benefit the adjoining areas of these sites.”
Since its inception in 2016, this initiative has had direct impact on 1,185 hectares of land surrounding the area with improved water table. It has also benefitted about 1,123 families with adequate drinking water along with water for irrigation. Overall, TPCDT’s Watershed initiative has exponentially benefitted many villages and will continue exploring more ways to maximize the benefits.
